Sellaband
August 23rd, 2007
We’ve just bought shares in a couple of bands at Sellaband.
The super indie-pop/rock/hybrid combos we’ve invested in are Trail and Agentx.
At Sellaband you buy a share of a band (in our case $10) and when the band have raised $50,000 they go into the studio and record their first album - which of course always goes on to sell billions worldwide, making us early “believers” incredibly rich in the process.
1/5000th share of a global pop phenomenon? Now that’s rock n roll.
At the moment, we’re a lot closer to our goal of retiring early with Trail, who have already raised $23,110.
Agentx are a little further behing having raised $110 so far - but with hair that big, we know the lead singer isn’t going to let us down.

A couple of years ago the Australian goverment set up some kind of tax loophole thingy whereby you could invest in upcoming bands.
The idea being that if the band didn’t take off, you could write off your investment as a tax loss.
My brother-in-law, who has a lot more money than taste, invested a large amount into a band he thought were absolutely terrible.
Suffice to say they went on to crack the Aussie Top Ten and have a couple of well selling albums.
And he lost a lot of money. Karma?

Having invested a little less than £15 on two bands - I’mk definitely at the low risk end of the investment spectrum. I’m sure I’ll lose the £15 though. My 2nd band (AgentX) have less invested in them now than when I started…that’s Karma.
