  2. Hey, that’s good news. We’ve had about 400 entries and 35,000 votes in the first few days, so it seems popular. If you like it, you can Digg it.

  4. Hi Jon, great work with the design, interface and how the site works. There seems to be lots of participation. I know someone who has entered a great boot design, and through monitoring it a fatal flaw is very apparant. Competitors are able to vote multiple times, and it is getting some serius abuse. It is more a contest of who can cheat the hardest which is very frustrating. I cant claim to be THE authority on what passes as good or bad design, but there are some decidedly shoddy boots heading the top spots. How do you think the contest will pan out in light of this? I feel something should be done to spare the effort invested by meaningful entrants.

Its a shame as i think the competition had such great potential!

  5. Hi Phil B

Sorry only just spotted your comment. We were well aware of the cheating which was going on. Unfortunately this always tends to happen no matter what you do. We were really keen not to enforce users to sign up before they could vote to make it all a bit more fun. To combat this we logged all the voting and built a monitoring tool in the admin, any potential cheating was flagged and once investigated if found to be cheating the votes were removed. This worked well, however we had so much traffic that it did become a time consuming task for the poor admin person here.

  7. We have a class of 75-90 students in summer school right now, and part of our fun for the day is voting for one of the students’ boot. However we’ve found that when one student votes it won’t let the other 74-89 independent computers vote. We’ve asked IT if all the computers have the same IP address, and they have assured us they don’t, that all computers are assigned a different IP address though they may be similar. Its a shame that your site can’t function efficiently, because what used to be a fun classroom endeavor has become a disapointment and left a bitter taste in the students’ mouths. Hopefully you can fix this soon, because they’res only two weeks left, and the students were really looking forward to seeing how fast their boot could rise.
