caption-comp.png

Now we’ve finally managed to offload the football table, we thought we’d launch a new competition, this time of the photo-caption variety.

The winning caption for this photo taken at LOVE HQ today (I’ve no idea why we’re dressing male and female mannequins in the office) will win a LOVE goodie box made up of things we need to get rid of out of the fridge and from round the office.

The competition will close when we’ve received more than 15 entries.

Pygmy Love Queen February 27th, 2008

pygmylovequeen.jpg

Continuing the theme of writing at least one post a week that is a bit more copy led, we quite enjoy the annual competition run by The Bookseller to find the oddest book title of the year.

This year, things are hotting up as titles including Cheese Problems Solved and How To Write A How To Write Book go head to head

I Was Tortured By The Pygmy Love Queen is probably polling quite well, but we’ve voted for If You Want Closure In Your Relationship Start With Your Legs. (an advice book for women written by a former laydeees-man).

I’m sure The Bookseller would appreciate your vote.

Make February 27th, 2008

Congratulations to Chris who has just had his first t-shirt design make it onto howies.

Chris - described as “a very talented chap” by the howies folks (we agree) has taken advantage of the recent upsurge in beard popularity, which probably started here.

At £25 it’s worth every penny in our view.

Buy one here.

The neighbourhood February 18th, 2008

picture-4.png

We’re proud to unveil the new website for our friends, the neighbourhood. For those who aren’t familiar with their work, they’re creators of some mighty impressive computer generated imagery - everything from architectural visualisations to motion graphics and even real 3d images (yep, the ones you need to put those cardboard specs on for…you know you’ve got a pair at home somewhere). Unlike most of their peers though, the guys wanted the site to emphasise their warmer, friendlier approach rather than the soulless perfection often associated with their industry. Go and pay them a visit.

Thinkers wanted February 18th, 2008

burt_reynolds_directv.jpg

We’re looking for senior creatives who fall into that odd space somewhere between design, digital and advertising.

We don’t want an old school advertising team and we don’t want clever letterhead graphic designers who use helvetica all the time.

We want ideas people that can make an idea into a book, a film, a website, a packaging solution, an advertising campaign, the next big TV show or even a chest wig and if that’s not enough we want creatives who can visualise their ideas up themselves.

Fussy aren’t we. If you think that description sounds like you contact:

6 Words February 15th, 2008

6-words.png

We know that this idea has been around since before The Old Man And The Sea, but as a creative agency that has a lot of time for copywriting and words, can anyone out there tell a story in 6 words that is better than “For sale. Baby Shoes, never used.” [Hemingway] ?

And as a creative agency that also likes pictures that tell stories, LOVE like how Flickr has put together the 6 words idea, with pictures to create this. When Wikipedia’s and Blogs are too long-winded, but pictures are often not enough, 6 well crafted words and a picture are a very powerful way of telling a story.

Probably explains the success of great print advertising.

Life Before WholeFoods February 12th, 2008

hippies.jpg

Not many people will have heard of David Canter. In the 1950’s, he’d read a lot about the health benefits of unrefined wholefoods and a vegetarian diet. By the 1960’s he’d identified a bit of a problem with sticking to such a diet. It can be mind-numbingly boring and involve eating meals that don’t taste of much.In the early 60’s David had an idea to create a chain of predominantly salad restaurants that aimed to make tasty wholefood recipes and interesting vegetarian meals.”In contrast to the traditional tired lettuce that makes the appetite wilt too, these salads could change the eater’s whole view of vegetables.” - he said, as he opened his first restaurant in Carnaby Street. More followed. He called them Cranks - because in those days his meat-reducer lifestyle was probably seen as a bit cranky.

Though Cranks became a highly successful early pioneer of vegetarianism and a very cool brand in the swinging sixties, the brand fell on hard times until it was bought by our Nando’s client, The Grocery Company who have been working hard to restore Cranks to the full glory it deserves. Look out for their sandwiches, wraps, bread and ready meals in places like Waitrose and Sainsbury’s. They’re delicious. They’ve asked us to work with them on a branding project. There’s nothing more rewarding than working on a brand with an interesting story to tell.
