Sadly our Class of ’08 winner Gemma Thelwell finished her time with us on Friday. It’s been a great couple of months, and we wish her all the best for the future, starting with a holiday in Spain next week. If you’d like to work with Gemma you can find her here.
And whilst it’s goodbye and good luck to Gemma, it’s hello and… erm… hello to Josh and Steven from the University of Lincoln who join us for a two week placement. Josh and Steven won the Student Roses brief we set last year to encourage people to learn a foreign language. Here are a couple of the ads they did:

They’re only up for a couple of weeks and have been trying desperately to arrange for book crits at agencies in Manchester but without any luck. We’ve already given them a few contacts, but if anyone out there from Manchester’s creative departments has half an hour to spare in the next two weeks to give them a book crit, we’d appreciate it. Actually they’d probably appreciate it more. If you can help out please drop me an email on: s (dot) griffin (at) our website address, or leave a comment.

Finally, whilst it’s sad that Gemma’s left us, it does mean that we’ll be running another Class of ’08 sometime soon. Except this year we’re calling it “Class of ’09″. We’ll post more details before the end of the week, but it’s unlikely to be anything too taxing. Probably something like ‘Send us your five best bits of work in a pdf.’ Crazy, huh?
So hang on a minute, you bleated on about how Great CLASS was going to be, how you were helping the future designers of the world, then booted her out when she was done? Poor lass, I’m sure she and all the others who didn’t ‘win’ were surely hoping for a job at the end. Seems you are riding off your own arrogance.
Hi Laurie.
Let’s not go calling each other names until we’ve considered everything. CLASS was set up to provide paid work experience to grads for a three month period. If you re-read the ‘Class of 08′ link in the post above (it’s dated 5th September) you’ll see that it makes no mention of jobs, only placements and paid experience. It’ll be exactly the same this year. Whether people want to apply or not is up to them.
And to say we booted Gemma out is a little harsh – we made it clear from day one that there might not be a job at the end of it. I’d rather we were honest and upfront about it, than string her along for another three months, like many places would.
Hope that clears things up for you. If you’d like me to explain more I can drop you an email.
