We are very pleased to announce that we’ve hooked up with our friends Studio Output to host their next Glug event at Cargo, in Shoreditch on Thursday 26 August. For those unfamiliar with it, Glug is billed as a Notworking event; a chance to meet, make friends and have a few drinks  - and a BBQ – with other creative folk. Previous hosts have included Mainframe, Studio AKA, Anthony Burrill, Dixon Baxi and All of Us. No pressure then.

As hosts, you’ll hear from us about LOVE, the work we do and why we do it. You may even see some ideas from the darker recesses of Phil Skegg’s mind (surely worth the £5.50 ticket price alone). We also have the honour of welcoming two esteemed guests to join us on the night. Let’s hear it for the Neighbourhood and Michael Moloney Studio, both good friends and long time collaborators of LOVE, as well as being hugely talented and all round good eggs.

We’re always on the look out for highly talented individuals to join our team. We’re still searching for a ‘really’ good mid-level artworker to help produce our lovingly-crafted work. The requirements from our quality conscious Studio Manager are as follows:

1. Candidate will have excellent hands-on artworking skills right through to producing print ready artwork for repro.

2. You will need excellent print production knowledge, good house keeping skills and OCD for detail.

3. Ability to work quickly and accurately under pressure on quick turn around jobs, whilst maintaining a high standard of quality and brand awareness is essential.

4. Excellent professional communication skills.

5. Essential software requirements: include InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop.

6. Other desirable software requirements that would be an advantage: PowerPoint, Flash and Fireworks.

7. From design/concept you will be creating print ready artwork for a range of projects including: advertising, spatial design, ad campaign toolkits, bespoke packaging, e-mailers and web banners.

8. The ability to retouch in Photoshop to a high level would also be a distinct advantage.

9. Report in to the studio manager.

10. Salary – Dependent on experience.

This is Umbro’s fastest boot and coming in at 238grams, it’s also their lightest ever. Aimed at the younger end of the market it comes in both a white/orange and a black/lime colourway.

We had a shared ambition with Umbro to produce a global execution that shied away from the typical OTT CGI stuff you see knocking around. So we went the other way and said ‘speed’ with cardboard, fishing wire, double-sided sticky tape and glue.

The pop art inspiration behind this was partly to do with the fast-consumerism, instant everything-ness of modern youth and partly to do with the ‘pop’ colours of the boot itself. Illustration by Chris Gray and Rob Bailey of Toy and photography by Tom Van Schelven.

We created 3 executions: Vroom, Kapow and Boom (with Darren Bent) along with a toolkit of assets and a series of digital banners and animated perimeter board executions.

We suspect this is not as easy as it looks. We thought it would be interesting to see how a creative agency gets on with the same brief.

We’re on with it now and will publish some results in due course. Please feel free to have a go and send in your portraits. A suitable prize will be awarded to the winner judged on choice of celebrity as well as artistic flair.
