It’s the Final Countdown December 22nd, 2008

There are tense scenes in the North Pole at the moment as Santa and his elves load up his sleigh with presents, hoping that the world has done enough to save his runway. At the last measurement the runway was perilously close to the minimum required take-off distance, meaning it’s touch-and-go for Wednesday night’s big launch.

Chief Elf Karl Small explains: “The runway is still melting. Melting is bad. We no like the melting. We like the freezing. And the turning off of light switches and all things that stop the Warming of the Global. Is a very nervous time for us all here.”

But there’s still time for you to do your bit – every little deed helps save a valuable few inches of his runway. Dr Maurice Bergs told us a little more: “Now’s a really vital time for Santa – if the runway is not long enough there’ll be a big splash and lot of disappointed children in the world tonight. It’s important that we keep saving every last dribble of energy to help him out. WE CAN DO IT!!! Ahem.”

You can tune in to Green Santa on Christmas Eve at 4pm to go exclusively live to Lapland and see if we’ve done enough to save Santa’s runway. Here’s hoping it’s a Merry Christmas for everyone.

Green Santa December 4th, 2008

You’ve probably all heard the story about how Santa was originally green, then Coke turned him red and he’s been that colour ever since. Well, he’s now back in green, and rallying people to do their bit for the environment. Green Santa is an idea originally created by Chief Productions, who teamed up with MAKE (LOVE’s new ‘research and development unit’ – can’t we think of a better way of saying this?) to help turn it into a new, interactive experience. Here’s how the new site looks:

The basic premise of Green Santa is simple:
Global warming is causing Santa’s runway to melt.
If Santa’s runway melts, his sleigh can’t take off.
If his sleigh can’t take off, he can’t deliver your Christmas presents.
So if you want your presents this year, you’ll need to do your bit for the environment first.
Gre, Tom and Stu made a nice film that explains it all:

It’s only a starter for the moment – we’ve bigger plans for Green Santa next year. But please get friends, neighbours and family involved and help spread the word – Every pledge helps his sledge! (And yes, I know technically Santa has a sleigh, not a sledge, but sleigh doesn’t rhyme with pledge, and rhymes are going to be big next year.)

Thanks to everyone who worked on the project – all at Chief, plus Phil, Terra, Leanda, Stu, Adam, Tom, Jamie, Gre, Si, Jo, Ru, Lisa, Louise, Mark and Rich. Plus anyone who I’ve left off – usually Johnny Whiteoak.
